A boisterous and precocious ten-year-old travels to Paris with her rakish uncle for a busy weekend of sightseeing. He and the audience, on the other hand, receive more than they bargained for in this anarchic comedy from Louis Malle, which runs roughshod over the streets of Paris and its landmarks. Zazie dans le Métro, based on Raymond Queneau's popular novel, is a stream-of-consciousness comedy, full of visual gags, editing tricks, and effects, done with flair on the precipice of the French New Wave.
