Jussi Vares falls in love with a lovely brunette, only to be betrayed by her. Sole's body is discovered in a bird-watching tower after a few weeks of dating. The investigations are halted until Vares promises to solve a mystery involving a tangle of denunciation letters. Many events occur prior to the letters revealing their secret. Stahanov, a hired gun, is given a task. Sole's brother discovers his wife in the arms of the wrong man and goes on a rampage with a black cat by his side. Finally, the clues point to a known individual, and more death is unavoidable.
