Outrageous Fortune is a New Zealand television comedy-drama that aired on TV3 from 12 July 2005 until 9 November 2010. The series followed the life of the career criminal West family after the matriarch, Cheryl, decided that the family should become law-abiding citizens. James Griffin and Rachel Lang devised the show, which was produced by South Pacific Pictures. As with the show itself, the episode titles were derived from Shakespearean lines. It terminated after six seasons and 107 episodes, making it New Zealand's longest-running drama series. Robyn Malcolm, Antony Starr, Siobhan Marshall, Antonia Prebble, Frank Whitten, and Kirk Torrance comprised the show's principal cast; Grant Bowler appeared in infrequent roles over the first five seasons. The series launched on July 12, 2005, to widespread praise. In its first four years, it won numerous major categories at the New Zealand Television Awards, and Malcolm's performance was praised by the majority of New Zealand critics. After the success of Outrageous Fortune, both the United States and the United Kingdom adapted the show into their own individual shows, neither of which was renewed after the first season.
