Peter Benchley made the TV show Amazon, which was seen all over the country. It was made by Alliance Atlantis Communications and WIC Entertainment in Canada and Beta Film GmbH in Germany. Between 1999 and 2000, all 22 episodes of the show were shown in first-run syndication. The drama series was about the six people who were still alive after a plane crashed in the Amazon jungle. The group soon meets a Native American tribe, but things don't go well between them. The group is taken in by a mysterious tribe of people who are the descendants of British settlers who got lost in the Amazon in the 1600s. The relationship with the Chosen is at best shaky. Most of the group gets away from the Chosen, but they stir up a cannibal tribe led by a crazy American woman who wants to take over all the other tribes in the area. There was a cliffhanger at the end of the first season, and a second season was never made. There was still enough interest in the series that it came out on DVD in 2011. Rob MacGregor turned the 2-hour pilot into a novel, and Harper put out a mass-market paperback version on August8, 2000. The German title was Amazonas - Gefangene des Dschungels.
