Joan Howell, a young and attractive maid-for-hire, meets and falls in love with affluent New York City businessman Tom Milford after meeting him at a party. Joan feels embarrassed about taking Tom back to her modest apartment, which she shares with her roommate Audrey, so she invites him to stay at a posh apartment that she cleans on a daily basis, not realizing that it is actually his residence. Tom goes through with the ruse despite the fact that he has no idea who Joan is, and Joan tries to straighten up Tom's apartment despite the fact that she has no idea who Tom is.
