Joan Howell, a young and attractive maid-for-hire, meets and falls in love with affluent New York City businessman Tom Milford after meeting him at a party. Joan feels embarrassed about taking Tom back to her modest apartment, which she shares with her roommate Audrey, so she invites him to stay at a posh apartment that she cleans on a daily basis, not realizing that it is actually his residence.
