Mr. Meacham, an elderly woodcarver, has been entertaining local children for years with tales about a fearsome dragon who dwells deep in the Pacific Northwest woods. These legends are nothing more than tall tales to his daughter, Grace, who works as a forest warden... until she meets Pete, a mysterious 10-year-old who claims to dwell in the woods with a big, green dragon named Elliott. Elliott, based on Pete's descriptions, resembles the dragon from Mr. Meacham's stories. Grace sets out to figure out where Pete comes from, where he belongs, and the truth about this dragon with the help of Natalie, an 11-year-old girl whose father Jack owns the local timber mill.
