Monte Walsh
Monte Walsh and Chet Rollins have been cowhands for many years, but "nothing they can't do from a horse" is their motto. There are long stretches of time spent on the range, as well as occasional trips to town. There are long-term romantic ties between Monte and prostitute Martine Bernard, while the widow who runs the hardware business has swayed Chet. Until Shorty Austin loses his job and gets involved in rustling and murders, the cowboys' days are filled with competitiveness and camaraderie. Suddenly their life on the range are inevitably changed.
