The World at War
The World at War is a British television documentary series with 26 episodes that chronicles the events of World War II. It was the most costly series ever made at the time of its completion in 1973, costing £900,000. Jeremy Isaacs produced it, Laurence Olivier narrated it, and Carl Davis created the score. To accompany the TV series, Mark Arnold-Forster wrote The World at War, which was published in 1973. The World at War has received critical acclaim since its completion and is now recognized as a watershed moment in British television history. As the Second World War was still fresh in many people's thoughts, Jeremy Isaacs was ahead of his time in reviving military history studies. The series depicted the horrible human realities of the war, including how life and death affected soldiers, sailors, airmen, civilians, tyrannical victims, and concentration camp inmates.
