The Philanthropist debuted on NBC on June 24, 2009. This summer series was filmed in South Africa. It opened strong but dropped in later weeks. The Philanthropist is a Carnival Films/Levinson/Fontana Company/Original Media production. Tom Fontana, Barry Levinson, Peter Horton, Charlie Corwin, Gareth Neame, and Teri Weinberg produced. On Oct.21,2009, NBC canceled the show. Fans' efforts to keep the show on the air via Facebook and "Save The Philanthropist through Charity" failed.
