The History Plays of William Shakespeare are adapted into a series of films that have been shown on British television under the title The Hollow Crown. The first season is an adaptation of Shakespeare's second historical tetralogy known as the Henriad, which includes the following plays: Richard II, Henry IV, Part I and Henry IV, Part II (both of which are presented in the series as if they were one film), and Henry V. The breadth of the second season is alluded to by the subtitle "The Wars of the Roses," which was given to that season. Henry VI: Part I, Henry VI: Part II, Henry VI: Part III (which is considered as two films in the series), and Richard III are all adapted from Shakespeare's first tetralogy.
