Despite excellent reviews, Fox canceled the show after 12 episodes due to low viewership. Unlike other sketch comedy shows, The Ben Stiller Show had no studio audience or laugh track. The only Fox sketch comedy without a laugh track. Semi-spinoff The Andy Dick Show has the same format. After discontinuation, the show earned an Emmy for Outstanding Writing in a Variety Series in 1993.
