The Affair looks at the emotional effects of Noah Solloway and Alison Lockhart's extramarital affair after they meet in the Long Island resort town of Montauk. Noah is a teacher in New York City. He has one book out, called "A Person Who Visits a Place," and is having trouble writing a second one. He is happily married and has four kids, but he doesn't like being dependent on his rich father-in-law. Alison is a young waitress who is trying to put her life and marriage back together after her child died in a tragic accident. From the male and female points of view, the story of the affair is told separately, each with a different memory bias.
