Star Trek: The Animated Series is an animated science fiction television series based on the events of Star Trek: The Original Series from the 1960s. The animated series was originally titled as Star Trek, but it was renamed to distinguish it from the live-action Star Trek series. The Animated Series, which ran from 1973 to 1974 and was followed by the 1979 live-action feature film Star Trek: The Motion Picture, was created in response to the success of the original live-action series in syndication and fan pressure for a Star Trek revival. The 'TAS' series was the original cast's final episodic portrayal of the characters until the "cartoon-like" graphics of the Star Trek: 25th Anniversary computer game in 1992, as well as its sequel Star Trek: Judgment Rites in 1993, both of which came after the cast's final film together, Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, in 1991. The first Star Trek series to get an Emmy Award was TAS.
