Star Trek: The Animated Series is an animated science fiction television series based on the events of Star Trek: The Original Series from the 1960s. The animated series was originally titled as Star Trek, but it was renamed to distinguish it from the live-action Star Trek series. The Animated Series, which ran from 1973 to 1974 and was followed by the 1979 live-action feature film Star Trek: The Motion Picture, was created in response to the success of the original live-action series in syndication and fan pressure for a Star Trek revival.
