Space Battleship Yamato is a Japanese science fiction anime series about a spaceship of the same name. It is also known to English-speaking audiences as Space Cruiser Yamato; an English-dubbed and substantially modified version of the anime was broadcast on North American and Australian television as Star Blazers. The first two seasons of this version aired in Greece as A in 1981-82. An Italian-language version was also broadcast in Italy under the title Star Blazers, while a Portuguese-language version was shown successfully in Brazil under the title Patrulha Estelar and Viaje a la Ultima Galaxia or Astronave Intrepido in Spain and Latin America. It is a landmark series in the history of anime, influencing works like as Mobile Suit Gundam and Neon Genesis Evangelion; Hideaki Anno has listed Yamato as his favorite anime and attributed it with igniting his interest in animation. Yamato was the first anime series or film to receive the Seiun Award, a distinction that would not be replicated until 1985's Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.
