"Robot Wars" was an American-inspired spinoff that aired in the United Kingdom. After being on BBC Two from 1998 to 2003, it was then shown on Channel 5 from 2003 to 2004. Two series of Robot Wars Extreme Warriors featuring American contestants were filmed for the TNN network, and two of Dutch Robot Wars were filmed for distribution in the Netherlands. Joanie Laurer served as the host for Robot Wars: Grand Champions, the American version of the fourth UK Robot Wars season, which aired on TNN in 2002. After forming The Fighting Robot Association in2003, the roboteers themselves continue to participate in tournaments for new audiences with the help of the event organizers they work with. The series featured teams of amateur and professional roboteers who built their own robots to compete in both friendly and competitive matches. They also had to dodge the "House Robots," which were not subject to the same weight or weapon restrictions as the contestants. Robo Wars peaked at 4 million viewers and was a huge economic success.
