The Western Wei were responsible for the enslavement of a significant number of citizens throughout the Warring Period. The rich lords make the slave girl Chu Qiao, along with the other slaves, the next target of their hunting parties when they throw them all into a forest. Prince Yan Xun of Northern Wei comes to her rescue and saves her life. After that, she is inducted into a powerful Yuwen family, where she watches as her relatives engage in a vicious power battle. As soon as she sees this, she makes a solemn vow to grab her younger sister and get the heck out of there. On the other hand, she draws the attention of Yuwen Yue, who puts her through rigorous training while simultaneously encouraging her to develop a sense of friendship with Yan Xun. Unfortunately, Western Wei enters the conflict, and Yan Xun's family is slaughtered in the process. Following the events of that catastrophe, Yan Xun becomes more ambitious and vicious in order to exact revenge for the people and things that he has lost. He has reservations about Chu Qiao and frequently takes advantage of her faithfulness and love, oblivious to the state of their relationship as well as the concessions he will need to make in order to get power. Chu Qiao eventually decides to end her engagement with Yan Xun because she is dissatisfied with him as a man and instead chooses to fight alongside Yuwen Yue. As a result, Yan Xun's efforts to exact revenge on Chu Qiao are foiled. She is finally successful in persuading Yuwen to end slavery in the country, establishing herself as a respected military strategist and female commander in the eyes of the populace.
