POV is a public television series that features independent nonfiction films produced by the Public Broadcasting Service. Point of view is abbreviated as POV. POV is television's longest-running showcase for independent documentary films. Since1988, PBS has aired 14-16 POV programs every year, with the series having presented over 300 films to American television audiences. POV's films are characterized by a strong first-person narrative with a significant social problem focus. Many well-known directors have had their work screened as part of the POV series, including Michael Moore, Jonathan Demme, Terry Zwigoff, Errol Morris, Albert and David Maysles, Michael Apted, Frederick Wiseman, Marlon Riggs, and Ross McElwee. Throughout its 20-plus years on television, the series has received critical and industry praise. Three Oscars, 32 Emmys, 36 Cine Golden Eagles, 15 Peabody Awards, 11 Alfred I. duPont-Columbia Awards, the Prix Italia, and the Webby Award have all been bestowed to POV programs.
