Mad Dogs

Cris Cole is the creator of the British television series Mad Dogs, which debuted on Sky1 on February 10, 2011, and is a combination of black humour and psychological thriller. It is produced by Left Bank Pictures, while Palma Pictures is involved in the production as a co-producer. The series stars John Simm, Marc Warren, Max Beesley, and Philip Glenister as four long-time friends who are in their middle years and gather together in a villa in Majorca to celebrate their friend Alvo's early retirement. However, once Alvo is killed, the group finds themselves embroiled in the criminal underworld and the corrupt workings of the police. After getting the impression that stories about bands have been "done to death," the producers decided to move the focus of the series away from a rock band. British Sky Broadcasting decided to produce the series when it was shown to be of interest by a few terrestrial networks. The movie was shot on location all across the island of Majorca during the month of May in 2010, and it cost approximately four million euros and took 44 days to make. Glenister has stated that the story is about becoming older and "drawing closer to death." The primary themes are companionship and growing older. Photographer David LaChapelle directed three adverts lasting thirty seconds each for the series. The first episode of Mad Dogs was watched by 1.61 million people, making it Sky1's 17th highest-rated program of all time. The show also received excellent feedback from the media. They recognized parallels to British gangster flicks, including the film Sexy Beast from the year 2000.
