Julia
Julia is a popular American sitcom that was one of the first to portray an African American woman in a non-stereotypical character. Previously, African American lead characters appeared in television shows, but they were usually servants. The sitcom ran on NBC from September17, 1968 to March23, 1971 and starred Diahann Carroll. Savannah Productions, Inc., Hanncar Productions, Inc., and 20th Century-Fox Television collaborated on the series. Mama's Man was the planned series title during pre-production. The series was also one of the few late 1960s situation comedies without a laugh track, although 20th Century-Fox Television inserted them for syndication and cable rebroadcasts.
