Jamaica Inn
The story takes place in 1820 on the harsh, windswept Cornish moors, and it's about a young girl named Mary whose mother has died and she has to move in with her Aunt Patience. When Mary goes to the remote Jamaica Inn, she finds that her Aunt is nothing like the carefree woman she remembers from her childhood. Instead, she finds a drudge whose husband Joss has her under his spell. The rooms are locked and used for storage, so the inn doesn't have any guests. However, it soon becomes clear that this is a ruse, since Joss is the leader of a smuggling ring and the Jamaica Inn is the center of his "free" trade.
