Jackass is a popular reality show that originated in the United States and was shown on MTV from the years 2000 to2002. The show follows a cast of characters as they participate in a variety of dares and pranks that put their own bodies in harm's way. The show acted as a springboard for the television and acting careers of Bam Margera, Steve-O, and also Johnny Knoxville, who had previously only had a few brief acting parts prior to their appearances on the show. After the series ended its run on television, MTV's corporate brother Paramount Pictures continued the Jackass franchise by producing and releasing three films in the series since 2002. The show was the impetus for the creation of a number of spin-offs, the most notable of which are Viva La Bam, Wildboyz, Homewrecker, Dr. Steve-O, and Blastazoid. On the list of "New TV Classics" compiled by Entertainment Weekly, the show came in at position #68.
