Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Harry Houdini, and Stratton are the only people who are entrusted with the responsibility of solving the mysteries that no one else can. Their perception of what is real and what is not is thrown into question as a result. Houdini was a skeptic, but Doyle had faith in things that couldn't be seen. Their divergent points of view make it difficult to solve crimes, and Stratton frequently finds himself in the thick of the conflict.
