Filmation and Tribune Entertainment teamed up to produce an animated television series based on the hit 1984 picture Ghostbusters, directed by Ivan Reitman and starring Ernie Hudson and Bill Murray. It aired in daytime syndication for six months, from September 8 to December5,1986, and produced 65 episodes. The inspiration for the cartoon came from the 1975 television series The Ghost Busters. Not to be confused with The Real Ghostbusters, an animated series based on the 1984 film Ghostbusters. To make Ghostbusters, Columbia Pictures had to acquire the name from Filmation; when Ghostbusters was a success, the company started making an animated series based on the characters from its series. Filmation's Ghostbusters was utilized for the home video releases to avoid confusion with the original "Ghostbusters" series. Qubo Night Owl and the Retro Television Network are now airing reruns of the show. Hulu is another option for watching the series.
