The plot centres around Haruka Nanase, a boy who has always enjoyed being immersed in water and swimming in it. Before graduating from elementary school, he competed in a swimming event with his fellow swimming club members, Makoto Tachibana, Nagisa Hazuki, and Rin Matsuoka. After winning, the boys went their separate ways. Time passed, and in the midst of their mundane high school life, Rin emerges and challenges Haruka to a fight, demonstrating his immense might to Haruka. Haruka unites Makoto and Nagisa once more, along with a new member named Rei Ryugazaki, to form the Iwatobi High School Swimming Club in order to fight Rin.
