Fame is a 1982–1987 American television series. The series is based on the 1980 film of the same name. It followed the lives of the students and instructors of New York City High School for the Performing Arts through a combination of theatre and song. Although it was a work of fiction, it was substantially inspired by the actual Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music, Art, and Performing Arts in New York. The majority of the interiors were shot in Hollywood, California. Except for the third season, the show filmed some outside scenes in New York City on site. The popularity of the series, particularly in the United Kingdom, resulted in multiple hit recordings and live concert tours by the cast. Despite its success, relatively few of the actors went on to have prominent careers when the show was discontinued. A few of the cast members appeared briefly again in Bring Back...Fame, a reunion program produced for UK television in 2008.
