The Everglades is an American television series that ran in first-run syndication for one season from 1961–62 and in reruns after that. The show is a crime-and-adventure show. Constable Lincoln Vail, played by Ron Hayes, was a fictional law enforcement officer working for the Everglades County Patrol in the show. Vail traveled through the Florida Everglades in an airboat, which was a vehicle that was frequently the focus of the show. Hayes portrayed Vail as the show's main character. Hayes, who worked as an actor and stuntman in northern California, was a committed environmentalist and outdoorsman. Gordon Casell was cast in the role of Chief Anderson, Vail's boss, and appeared in five of the 38 episodes that were half an hour long. Steve Brodie appeared three times in the role of Captain Andy Benson, and Dan Chandler was cast in the role of Vail's sidekick, airboat guide Pete Hammond, on two separate occasions.
