The city of Capetown Mat Joubert, a former police captain, used to be the best, solving every crime and capturing every killer. But that was a year ago, prior to his wife Lara's murder while undercover. Mat has been spiraling downwards ever since, haunted by a hazy past and unsure of his role in his wife's murder. Mat is currently an out-of-shape chain smoker who is apathetic about the crime-ridden environment around him. Mat gradually overcomes the specters of his past. In order to stop the violence in his present cases, however, he must revisit the nightmare of his wife's death.
