The Animal Planet network broadcasts Call of the Wildman, an American reality television series. The show is presently on its third season. Ernie Brown, Jr., often known as "The Turtleman," is a Kentucky woodsman. Brown runs a nuisance animal removal service with the help of his friend Neal James and his dog Lolly, catching animals without killing them and returning them to the wild. Brown's native town of Lebanon, Kentucky, is the setting for the show. Brown was 7 years old when he started catching snapping turtles from ponds near his house. His bare-handed turtle-catching techniques were featured in an episode of Kentucky Educational Television's Kentucky Afield series, which went viral on YouTube. Network executives chose to launch a 12-episode season of The Turtleman of Wild Kentucky after personally visiting Brown and doing some initial filming. Brown's unique cry, which punctuates his activities throughout the series, was soon altered to Call of the Wildman. The series was Animal Planet's most popular show in the fourth quarter of2011, and it was extended for a second, 16-episode season in June 2012.
