Athena: Goddess of War is a South Korean espionage television drama series that premiered on SBS in 2010. It is a sequel to 2009's Iris. The two series, each budgeted at 20 billion, are among the most expensive Korean dramas ever created. The series, which starred Jung Woo-sung, Cha Seung-won, Soo Ae, and Lee Ji-ah, premiered in December 2010 after filming in Italy, New Zealand, Japan, and the United States. The series takes place in the same universe as its predecessor, allowing certain characters from Iris to reprise their roles throughout the plot.
