Asylum is a 1996 British comedy sitcom that aired on the Paramount Comedy Channel. It was set in a mental institution and lasted six episodes. Unlike standard sitcoms or comedy television shows, it provided a platform for numerous comedians to do stand-up routines while also telling a story with a lot of black humor. It's noteworthy because it features a big number of British comedians, many of whom have gone on to work on some of the most popular comedy shows of the recent decade. It was the first time Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Jessica Stevenson worked together before going on to create the popular sitcom Spaced. The names of many of the characters were the same as the performers who played them. The series' "house band," David Devant & His Spirit Wife, performed pieces from their first album, Work, Lovelife, Miscellaneous, in every episode. The title music for the show was the lead-in single "Ginger." The series has yet to be released on DVD, however you may watch the entire series on Norman Lovett's website.
