The Anne of Green Gables animated television series is a part of the World Masterpiece Theater franchise produced by Nippon Animation. Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery was the source material for this movie adaptation. It was initially shown on Fuji TV from January7,1979, all the way through December30,1979. It was produced by Nippon Animation in 1979 and released that year. There were a total of fifty episodes made. It has been shipped to a number of countries in Europe, Canada, and the surrounding Asian countries. "DVD commemorative BOX set" was released on August22,2008, and a new anime series that acts as a precursor to the series, Kon'nichiwa Anne Before Green Gables, which began on April5, 2009 in Japan. As with the novels, the animated version of Anne is still very popular in Japan to this day.
