21 Jump Street

21 Jump Street is an American police procedural crime drama TV show that aired on the Fox Network and in first run syndication from April 12, 1987, to April 27, 1991, with a total of 103 episodes. The show is about a group of young-looking undercover police officers who investigate crimes in high schools, colleges, and other places where teenagers hang out. It was originally going to be called Jump Street Chapel, after the deconsecrated church building where the unit has its headquarters. Fox asked that the name be changed so that viewers wouldn't think it was a religious show. The show was created by Patrick Hasburgh and Stephen J. Cannell, and it was made by Patrick Hasburgh Productions and Stephen J. Cannell Productions, along with 20th Century Fox Television. Executive Producers were Hasburgh, Cannell, Steve Beers, and Bill Nuss. The show was a big hit for the young Fox Network and was made to attract younger viewers. The final season was shown in first-run syndication, mainly on local Fox affiliates. It was shown again on the FX cable network from 1996 to 1998. The series sparked Johnny Depp's acting career and made him a national teen idol. Depp found this status annoying, but he had to stay on the show because it was in his contract. He was paid $45,000 per episode. He was finally let go from his contract after the fourth season. The character of Dennis Booker got his own show, Booker, which ran for one season from September 1989 to June 1990. A movie version starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum came out on March 16, 2012.
