Wicked City
This Japanese animated film is a dark thriller aimed towards adults. A peace deal between Earth and the Black World, a parallel reality inhabited by aliens resembling spiders, is about to expire. Taki, a human guy, and Maki, an extraterrestrial female, are tasked with protecting a diplomat who will assist in securing another treaty. A fanatical party of aliens from the Black World are attempting to assassinate the envoy and thwart the treaty; only the relationship that grows between the two police officers can avert the annihilation of the Earth. Sex is strongly related with violence in numerous violent scenes; while this is supposed to serve a symbolic function, this theme is overused. The narrative is effective, but the film is not suitable for youngsters or those who are easily offended.
