Dr. Leo Marvin, a self-absorbed psychiatrist, has the misfortune of taking on a new patient, Bob Wiley, just before going on vacation. Bob accompanies Marvin to his family's country residence, an instance of neediness and a compendium of fears. Dr. Marvin attempts to persuade him to go, but everyone likes Bob. Dr. Marvin loses his professional composure as his inattentive patient makes himself at home, and he may soon be ready for the psychiatric ward.
