Under Capricorn
Charles Adare, an Irishman, travels to Australia in 1831 to begin a new life with the assistance of his cousin, who has recently been appointed governor. When he arrives, he is greeted by Sam Flusky, a prominent landowner and ex-convict who wishes to do business with him. Charles meets Flusky's wife Henrietta at a dinner gathering at his house. He had known Henrietta as a child in Ireland. Henrietta is a recovering alcoholic who appears to be on the point of going insane.
