For ten years, inventor David Kressen has lived in seclusion with his inventions, which include Adam, an incredibly lifelike robot. When reporter Joy Andrews is granted access to their unusual facility, she is simultaneously repulsed and drawn to the scientist and his creation. However, as Adam's emergent behavior of rage and jealously against her grows, she becomes progressively enmeshed in a web of lies in which no one's motivations are immediately discernible.
