The Sleeping City

A young doctor who was taking a break from work is shot in the head, and the authorities are unable to uncover any information about the shooter or his motivation. Al Gordon (John Alexander) determines that he must place some men on duty at the hospital, and one of these men is Fred Rowan (Richard Conte), a detective with prior military experience who is posing as an intern in order to gain access to the facility. What Rowan discovers is a high-pressure world in which interns are severely pressed for time, sleep, energy, and — most importantly — money, and must tread a delicate line between personal and professional catastrophe.
