Eccentric Frank Carlyle operated a horror shop in the little town of Steeple Falls, which takes great pleasure in its Halloween customs and makes a profit from them. In order to settle the bequest, Frank's widower grandson Richard reluctantly travels from Boston with his own children, intelligent Ian and bratty Claire, to settle the estate. Ian discovers that his great-mansion grandfather's is indeed haunted, and that it is not only haunted by the historic owner Zachariah Kull, who was burned at the stake, as legend has it.
