Both Caroline and Lloyd have mastered the art of delivering acid-tongued jabs at the other's cost as a married couple continually at each other's necks. They will not stop, not even when threatened with a gun, from insulting one another. As an insurance policy, Gus kidnaps the couple and plans to use their home as a refuge for his escape from the police. It turns out, however, that the constant fighting is more than Gus bargained for and forces him into the onerous role of peacemaker for his own sanity. Gus realizes that he has taken the couple prisoner on the night of their huge Christmas party, and the guests are already on their way. This makes things even more difficult for him. Gus decides to attend the party in order to keep an eye on Lloyd and Caroline under the guise of a marriage counselor. A sequence of comical mishaps ensue as the hostage crisis and marital tensions reach their logical end.
