Selah, a little girl born into an oppressive cult known as the Flock, is the subject of this eerie and nightmare-like narrative. All women and female children comprise the Flock, which resides in a rural compound and is led by a man known only as Shepherd. Selah, a girl on the edge of adolescence, is given the high privilege of participating in the sacred ceremony of the birthing of the lambs, upon which their survival depends, where she has a stunning and supernatural experience. She begins to see unusual visions that cause her to question her own reality as well as all the Shepherd has taught her and her sisters.
