The Night My Number Came Up
An officer of the Royal Navy is coerced into divulging details of a dream in which eight people board a Dakota destined for Tokyo and crash in the Japanese highlands. The dream takes place at a sophisticated dinner party in Hong Kong, and the officer is a Royal Navy officer. Air Marshal Hardie, who is scheduled to fly to Tokyo the following day, is among those who are paying attention.. He initially brushes off the dream because he has been scheduled to fly off on a Liberator. However, when Hardie arrives at the airport, he discovers that the Liberator has experienced mechanical difficulties and has been replaced by a Dakota. When two soldiers enter the plane just before the flight is scheduled to depart, bringing the total number of soldiers on board to eight, Hardie thinks that his nightmare is coming true and that he is doomed to die.
