Music journalist Myles Clarkson, a frustrated pianist himself, is ecstatic to be interviewing virtuoso Duncan Ely. Duncan, on the other hand, is terminally ill and is uninterested in Myles until he notices Myles' hands are great for piano. Suddenly, he becomes obsessed with his new acquaintance, and Myles' wife, Paula, develops suspicions about Duncan's motives. Her suspicions are heightened when Duncan dies and Myles inexplicably transforms into a virtuoso.
