Rex is an elderly gentleman who is resentful of having never achieved fame and of having lived a life devoid of significance. A stroke causes him to find himself in a nursing home staffed entirely by Latino immigrants from all over the world. He is put off by the circumstances and spends his time and energy trying to get out, which puts him at odds with the Latino employees. A new layer of significance is added to their relationship when it is revealed that he has previously shaken hands with Vicente Fernandez, a Mexican musician, record producer, and actor who is revered throughout Latin culture. Within a short period of time, Rex begins to be treated like the celebrity that he has always wanted to be.
