The Long and the Short and the Tall
In the style of a play by Willis Hall. In the jungle, a troop of British soldiers is capturing jungle noises and troop noises in order to play back the recordings to other forces to divert the enemy's attention away from their location. As they make their way closer to the base camp, they find themselves increasingly out of radio range, until the only channel they can receive clearly is a Japanese broadcast. This has caused them to conclude they are probably only 10 to 15 kilometers away from a Japanese camp! This is exacerbated even more by Private Bamforth, a raucous and openly avowed "non-hero" who has nothing good to say about anyone, especially Corporal Johnstone (who holds an equal dislike for Bamforth). When they capture a Japanese soldier and hold him as a prisoner, the true nature of each man is revealed.
