The Last 10 Years
The protagonist, a 20-year-old woman, finds out that she has just 10 years to live because she has an incurable condition that affects only one in tens of thousands of people. She made the conscious decision to avoid both romantic attachment and life fixation. The hero, though, was a fellow alumni she had the good fortune to meet at a regional gathering. Author Kosaka Ruka's life served as inspiration for both the novel and the film. At the age of39, she passed away in 2017 from an incurable illness.
