Set in 1912, inside a dive bar named The Last Chance Saloon, its penniless patrons look forward to the arrival of Hickey, who comes every year to cheer them up with free drinks and entertaining anecdotes about his adventures. When Hickey does appear this year, he will bring a message of moderation as well as an exhortation to abandon hopeless dreams and face the harsh realities of the world.
