Betty Lou works as a librarian in a teeny-tiny town. Her husband is a police detective who is infatuated with her. Betty Lou is the pinnacle of mice. Betty Lou discovers the murder weapon when a gangland figure is inexplicably murdered in town, but she can't get anyone's attention to notify them (we're talking extremely mousey here). Finally, in a fit of rage, she shoots the gun in a lavatory and insists on being charged as the murderer when escorted to the police station. It achieves the desired impact; people are drawn to her. She's on her way, with hints of social graces from the hookers in her cell block.
