The Door in the Floor

An investigation of the complexity of love in both its brightest and darkest corners, both tragic and humorous. The film is set in the aristocratic beach enclave of East Hampton, New York, and covers one important summer in the life of famed children's book author Ted Cole (Jeff Bridges) and his beautiful wife Marion. It is based on John Irving's best-selling novel A Widow for One Year (Kim Basinger). Tragic events have fractured their once-perfect relationship. The pair has been unable to confront a much-needed change in their relationship due to her melancholy and his subsequent infidelity. Eddie O'Hare, the young man Ted recruits as his summer assistant, is the couple's naive but willing pawn-and, in the end, the trigger for their lives' metamorphosis.
