Freddie is a hopelessly incompetent bank teller with no prospects. His primary recreational activity is butterfly collecting, which provides him with a sense of power and control that he otherwise lacks in his daily activities. He inherits a significant quantity of money and uses it to purchase a country property for himself. Still unable to put himself at ease in social situations, he begins to formulate a strategy for gaining a female companion in the same way that he collects butterflies. His victim is stalked for several days as he prepares the cellar of the house to be a collection jar for his collection.
